DepEd taps Cebu to host Palarong Pambansa football bubble tournament

Football in the school sports system is finally making a comeback and it will start in Cebu. The Central Visayas Regional Football Association has been tapped by the Department of Education to hold a football bubble tournament for secondary boys in April with participants from both Metro Cebu and Cebu Province.

The event, which will be held in April, tentatively at the Cebu City Sports Center, will be the first major sports event in Cebu since Covid-19 forced both the government and the private sector to halt all non-essential activities.

HONORED. Central Visayas Regional Football Association president Rodney Orale said their group is honored to be chosen as host of the breakthrough tournament and is appealing to the local community to make the event safe and successful.

The tournament will also be the first sports bubble for school sports in the country and will be used as a litmus test and blueprint for the resumption of the Palarong Pambansa, the step-ladder tournament of the Department of Education that was halted since the Covid 19 pandemic hit the country in February of 2020.

“The local football community is honored to be tapped as host of this event and we, the Central Visayas Regional Football Association, are asking everyone in the community to help us make sure this will be a successful event. As the first football bubble, all eyes will be on us and we need all your help to make this safe and successful,” said Rodney Orale, the president of the CVFA.

To help ensure the tournament will be successful and safe, a five-man team from DepEd, led by Joel S. Erestain, the director of the Palarong Pambansa secretariat, will be coming over to Cebu in March to inspect the venue and facilities and to meet with local organizers to iron out the guidelines.
