JOHN Riekz Liorag score the lone goal as he lifted Giuseppe FC to a narrow 1-0 win over the University of San Carlos Basic Education Department in the final day of the elimination round of the Players 12 Division of the 24th Aboitiz Football Cup on Oct. 20, 2024.
The win allowed Giuseppe to dislodge USC-BED at the top spot of Group 1 and a quarterfinal encounter with Group 4 No. 2 FC Kickerz. On the other hand, USC-BED, which lost for the first time, will have a tougher task as it takes on Real Galaxy in the quarterfinals.
Real Galaxy sealed its top finish in the elims with a 4-0 win over Subangdaku Elemenentary School FC, with Carlos Armani Louis Arma getting the ice breaker in teh 10th. Fernando Camacho made it 2-0 two minutes later before Brent Andrie Bisnar scored in the 39th as Camacho sealed the 4-0 win in the 44th.
On the other hand, FC Kickerz sealed its entry into the knockout phase with a narrow 1-0 win over Lo-oc FC with Hector Baritua Jr. scoring in the 25th minute.
In Group 2, Cebu Football Club Academy grabbed the top spot from Cebu United FC after 13-0 rout of Makati FC Cebu, with Marcus Rama showing up with his golden boot as he tallied six goals. Shannon Maliinao and Rio Kyamko had two each, while Zachary Repunte and Joshua Enriquez had one.
Cebu United FC also won its last match, 4-1, against Don Bosco FC B, thanks to goals from Kent Earl Pantonial, Dhaeyyansyah Darshan, Hiawei Kendrick Lee and Nathanel Benjin Boctuan.
Both Cebu United and CFC Academy finished at 7 points on a 2-1 record but CFC Academy took the top spot on goal difference by just two.
In the round-of-8, CFC Academy will take on Group 3 No. 2, Kanlulang FC, while Cebu United will take on No. 1 Don Bosco FC C.
Don Bosco FC C showed it’s one of the favorites for the division as it tallied its third straight rout, this time against Sportsgen International, 12-0.
Mikhael Lucas Pazon channeled his inner Lionel Messi with four goals, finishing a hat trick in the first 23 minutes, while Christian Villamor, and Gerard Claude Zapanta had two each. Elijah Noah Ralloma, Zac Mathew Dano, and Clyde Gerona scored one each. The match was so lopsided that Don Bosco was already ahead 5-0 in the first 20 minutes.
Don Bosco has scored 34 goals in three games, while allowing none.
Meanwhile, Sportsgen’s loss allowed Kanlungan FC to grab the No. 2 spot after its 9-1 win over Lapu-Lapu City FC. Septhomas Paloma had four goals, while Gab Liam Monsanto added three and Sean Kristoff Buglosa and Jagger Fabro had one each.
