THE Cebu Regional Football Association is elated that Congresswoman Dr. Patsy Calderon will include football in her grassroots sports program for the seventh district of Cebu.

Dr. Calderon, who is advocating for health programs as a first-term congresswoman, recently launched her sports development program–the Calderon Cup for the seventh district towns comprising Dumanjug, Ronda, Alcantara, Moalboal, Badian, Alegria, Malabuyoc and Ginatilan.
The Calderon Cup will kick off with a basketball tournament but will have a football clinic in the summer.
“This is a very welcome development and this also coincides with the thrust of the Philippine Football Federation to get more people to play the sport this year,” said CRFA president Rodney Orale.
Engr. Orale said the CRFA is looking forward to working with Dr. Calderon for the development of a football program for the Seventh District.
Engr. Orale said the CRFA can conduct a series of seminars in the seventh district for the new players, coaches, or referees.
“We can prioritize the public school teachers or barangay-based coaches so they can start their own programs in their schools or barangays,” said Orale. “If venue for football is an issue, we can concentrate on futsal since most schools or towns have their own gyms.”
