RonBuc-A showed its A game to cap its CYBL U16 Summer Showcase with the Division 1 title after a clinical 86-59 win over Future Basketball Academy on Friday at the Capitol Parish Gym.
RonBucz, coached by University of the Visayas legend Ronald Bucao, stormed to 19-10 lead in the first quarter thanks to eventual MVP Khian Panerio and John Louie Bual. In the second, Louiegee delos Angeles and Jances Anacta tried to keep FBA within fighting distance but Kenneth Cole and Jhunrel Dagatan with timely baskets for a 38-28 lead.
It all was over in the third quarter when Panerio, Bual and big man Benedict Paca led a 30-17 run to cruise to a comfortable 68-45 lead.
Panerio finished with 18 points and five assists to gain MVP honors, while Cole had 14 and Bual finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. The team also forced 33 turnovers.
Anacta led FBA with 15 points, de los Angeles had 13 points but had eight turnovers while Yosef Raneses, the son of former UV star Neil and a teammate of Bucao, had five points and six turnovers.
In the battle for third place, CHBC-Juniors outlasted AI, 83-78, with Alden Cainglet leading the team with 25 points and eight rebounds. Jelomar Rota, the Bull from Bantayan, lived up to his moniker with 17 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.
Mikyele Legarde had a respectable 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Jireh Caro was held to two points on a 1-of-8 clip.
Panerio and Cole of RonBucz were named to the Mythical Five along with Chedreyc Benitez of FBA, Cainglet of CHBC Juniors and Caro of A1.
The CYBL Summer Showcase was presented by the MVP Sports Foundation, which was represented by Marko Sarmiento during the event.
