SEDA rules volleyball, basketball events of HRRACI Sportsfest

WINNER. Former pro cager Steve Castro had 39 points in the final against Seda Central Bloc.

SEDA Central Bloc made it three-for-three after ruling the basketball and volleyball events in the Hotel Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu, Inc. (HRRACI) Sportsfest 2024 on July 21 at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) gym.

Ex-pro Steve Castro dropped 39 points as Seda Central Bloc upended Shangri-la Mactan Resort, 89-80, in their knockout final match to emerge as champions on the hardcourt.

Castro, who made 7 of 14 threes and 12 of 13 free throws, also had five rebounds, four assists, and four steals and was named the Finals MVP.

Harold Cortes tallied 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals, while Renzo Galdo contributed 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists for Seda, which trailed by eight points, 22-30, early in the second period.   

Still down by three at halftime, 41-38, Seda launched a decisive counter-attack in the third frame to seize the driver’s seat, 63-57.

While their rivals seemingly lost steam in the final stretch, the BJ Murillo-mentored Seda sustained their sizzling offensive on the way to establish an insurmountable 19-point advantage, 84-65, late in the game.

STRAIGHT SETS. Seda also defeated Nustar Resort and Casino, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20, for the women’s crown.

Shangri-la closed the match with a 15-5 run to lose by a decent margin.

Nico Magat topped Shangri-la with 20 points, five rebounds, and six assists. 

Kenneth Glenn Niones netted 16 points and four rebounds, while Jose Miguel Tabaloc cashed in 13 points, nine boards, and two steals but their efforts went down the drain.

In volleyball, the spirited Seda spikers swept all the titles available.

Seda pulled off a 3-0 shutout of Nustar Resort and Casino with a uniform score of 25-20 to reign supreme in the women’s division, and then clobbered Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu also in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16 to grab the men’s crown.
