The Aboitiz Football Cup finally returns to Cebu

The Aboitiz Football Cup, Cebu’s biggest football tournament for over 20 years, is finally returning to its roots. The tournament, which had its last edition in Cebu during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, will be launched on Aug. 22 with a signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with the Central Visayas Football Association, which will be followed by a press conference.

REVIVAL. CVFA president Engr. Rodney Orale (second from right) and the rest of the CVFA officials (from left) Engr. Nilo Ferraren, Archie Reyes, Chad Songalia, Nimrod Quinones and Archt. Jhojo Partosa will be spearheading the revival of Cebu’s biggest tournament–the Aboitiz Cup.

The 2020 season was one of the biggest yet as it featured categories as young as 7 and as old as 50 and with separate divisions for the BPOs.

However, the pandemic cut it short and when it returned for its 22nd edition in 2022, it was held in Lipa Batangas.

It was the same in 2023, leaving the Cebu football community asking whether its biggest tournament and benefactor would ever return to Cebu.

And now it has.

“Aboitiz Cup Season 24 Opening is on Sept. 14, 2024 at Dynamic Herb Sports Stadium. Expect football players and dignitaries from the National to be part of the event,” said CVFA president and newly elected PFF 3rd Vice President Rodney Orale.
