USC battles USPF for Cesafi college football title

EIGHT-time defending champion University of San Carlos and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation arranged a titular showdown or the College football title of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. despite posting contrasting fates in the final day of the elimination round on Dec. 8, 2025.

THIRD MEETING. USC and USPF will meet for the third time this season, this time in the final of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. football event.

Earning a homecourt advantage thanks to the renovation of the Cebu City Sports Center football field, USC ran circles around UP Cebu, 4-0, with Gianrenzo Andres CUstado (13th), Mark Anthony Talingting (42nd), Areli Acuin Gaspe (49th) and Ernesto Guevara (87th) scoring a goal each.

On the other hand, breathed some life into its sorry campaign with a similar 4-0 win against USPF, which, win or lose, already had a shot for the title.

Liam Benedicto Olvido (10th), MC Miko Silva (32nd), Khalel Yuson Benabaye (73rd), Dylan Kane dela Fuente (89th) all scored for USJ-R.

Next Sunday, USPF will gun for its maiden Cesafi crown against the defending champions USC, their third meeting for the season. During their first match, a late penalty gifted USC the win, while in their second outing, USPF scored a second half equalizer for their 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, USJ-R and UP Cebu will be playing their match in the double round robin format on Sunday with the winner earning third place.

Both teams have 1 win, 1 draw and three losses and a goal difference of 0, with USJ-R having the slight edge for scoring six goals to UP’s four.

In the high school division, SHS-Ateneo will face off with perennial champion Don Bosco Technical College for the title. Ateneo closed out its group stage campaign with a 5-1 rout of San Carlos School of Cebu, thanks to goals by Antonio Benito Canton, Adam Clinton Lee, Mark Nathan Tabon, CHarles Marcus Sia, and Jared Abastas.

Xyrus Lloyd Maraquio scored the lone goal for SCSC.
