20 teams join CYBL’s two-division U16 Summer Showcase tournament

It’s the Under 16s turn to showcase their skills as the Cebu Youth basketball League stages the two-division Summer Showcase, which will be played at the Capitol Parish Gym and in Tayud Consolacion.

The first division has eight teams .in two groups; Group A will have the CHBC-Jrs, made up mostly of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu players, the Don Bosco Greywolves, FBA and the Aneda Builders Falcons. Group B has RonBucz, mostly University of the Visayas Players, A1, led by University of Southern Philippines Foundation coach Alan Cabatingan, GotShot, mostly from players from Cebu’s commercial coach Van Parmis and CHBC-Passerelle.

The CHBC-JRS will open the season against the Greywolves on May 20 at the Capitol Parish gym, while CHBC-Passerelle wlll face Got SHot and AI takes on RonBucz.

On the other hand, Division 2, which will be played in Tayud, Consolacion, will have One-on-One A, Batang Mandirigma, Toledo City Hyenas, One-on-One C, Sherilin-Unisol and Ronbucz 3 in Group A and GAA, One-on-One B, Ronbucz 2, Kayud Tayud, CLBA and Coach G in Group B.

The top two teams in the second division will be promoted to Division 1 in the next edition. However, there is no relegation from Division 1.

“Division 2 is our developmental division for ball clubs. The top two teams in Division 2 gets invited to join Division 1 in our next tournament,” said organizer Popoy Navarro.

The CYBL recently held its Summer Showcase tournament for the U18 with Cebu Landmasters, manned by players from Ateneo, winning the title.
