The fledgling and struggling Philippine Football League may find itself in a match-fixing scandal after an active player has been discovered to be looking for conspirators willing to fix matches.
The player told a fellow player that he can offer as much as P80,000 per individual who is willing to fix results, bragging of an instant “P260K” payout. A game the player was trying to influence the results was to be played on Oct. 22.
Fortunately for the PFL, the personalities he contacted have all turned him down, with one answering that he couldn’t do it when he was told to discretely contact players who are willing to fix matches. Another told him to avoid contacting him after they talked over the phone.
Unfortunately for the player, who was in the substitute list in his last PFL game, the owner of the team he plays for has been informed and while the Philippine Football Federation and its president Nonong Araneta is busy with the draw for the women’s world cup, they are expected to be informed of this latest development.
