THE University of San Carlos Basic Education Department (USC-BED) and Giuseppe FC will fight for the top spot in Group 1 of the Players 12 division as they seek to extend their unbeaten run in the 24th Aboitiz Football Cup on Oct. 20 at the Don Bosco Technological Center field.
Both teams won their first two matches with USC BED taking the top spot having scored nine goals to Giuseppe’s 6. The winner of the match will be the Group 1 No. 1 team, while a draw will also favor USC-BED.
The Group 1 winner will take on the Group 4 runner-up in the quarterfinals and it’s currently a tossup between Real Galaxy and FC Kickerz, who both have four points but with the former having scored four more goals.
On Sunday, FC Kickerz will take on winless Lo-oc FC, which has conceded six goals in two matches, while Real Galaxy will face third placer Subangdaku Elementary School, which has three points.
A win by FC Kickerz will get it seven points, while Subangdaku can sneak to the quarterfinals as the group’s second-ranked team should it beat Real Galaxy.
In Group 2, undefeated Cebu United FC hopes to seal its entry into the quarterfinal round as the No. 1 team as it shoots for its third straight win against Don Bosco FC B. Cebu United and CFC Academy both have four points with the latter having scored eight more goals. CFC Academy will face Makati Football Club in the final round.
In Group 3, DB FC C and Kanlungan are expected to finish at Nos. 1 and 2 respectively, after the final elimination round matches. DB FC C is at six points, having scored 22 goals in its first two matches and is expected to go 3-0 against Sportsgen International Academy.
Kanlungan, which is at third place, should jump to second if it beats lightweight Lapu-Lapu City, which has conceded 20 goals in two games.
