Late rally lifts Velarde, Jumapao to SUGBU Doubles Weekly crown

REY Velarde and Jomar Jumapao rallied in the final two frames to win the Sugbuanon Bowlers United weekly doubles event at the SM Seaside Bowling Center on Oct. 20, 2024.

CHAMPION. Rey Velarde and Jomar Jumapao posted the best scores in Rounds 3 and 4 to win the Sugbuanon Bowlers United weekly tournament.

Velarde and Jumapao finished with 1,643 after posting the day’s best scores of 438 and 416 and in the final two rounds to beat GJ Buyco and Heber Alqueza, who finished with 1,590 with a best showing of 424 in Round 2.

Chris Ramil and Geff Buyco conceded second place by just two pins as they settled for third at 1,588, scoring 386, 392, 396, and 414 in the event.

Luther Tapaya and Luke Bolongan finished at fourth with 1,569 after an impressive 451 in round two, while MJ Villa and Rommel Calipay got fifth place with 1,545. On the other hand, Raymund Adlawan and Joma Avila opened with a tournament best 453 in round 1 but failed to breach the 400-barrier in the next three rounds to settle for sixth place at 1,533.

The rest of the top 10 pairs are Celis Viloria and David Pena (1,519), Uwe Schulze and Robert Sarvida (1,503), Ted Convocar and Lemuel Paquibut (1,466), and Arthur Tapaya and Rene (1,443).

Meanwhile, Adlawan and Avila got the prize for Round 1 after scoring 453, while Schulze and Sarvida got second with 423. In Round 2, Bolongan and Tapaya took the top prize with 451, with Buyco and Alqueza at second place with 424. It was a close battle in Round 3 with Velarde and Jumapao winning first place with 438, just one ahead of Villa and Calipay.

Velarde and Jumapao also won round 4 narrowly with 416, just two ahead of second placer Chris Ramil and Geff Buyco.

TOURNAMENT BEST. Raymund Adlawan and Joma Avila posted a tournament best 453 in Round 1, while Uwe Schulze and Robert Sarvida got second with 423.
ROUND 2. Luther Tapaya and Luke Bolongan won Round 2 with 451, while GJ Buyco and Heber Alqueza got second with 424.
CLOSE. Rey Velarde and Jomar Jumapao won Round 3 with 438, just one ahead of MJ Villa and Rommel Calipay.
FINALE. Rey Velarde and Jomar Jumapao also won Round 4 by just two pins, scoring 416 to beat Chris Ramil and Geff Buyco.
