ROY Esolana came up big when it mattered most to bag the 2024 Bowler of the Year title of the Sugbuanon Bowlers United on Jan 5. 2025 at the SM Bowling Center.
Esolana finished second in the elimination round with 1,233, scoring an impressive 255 and 212 in the second and third frames. He trailed former national team member Jomar Jumapao who tallied an impressive 1,323 breaching the 200-point barrier five times in six rounds.
Aui Padawan finished at third place with 1,230, while Joma Avila and Rene Cinza got the fourth and fifth spots with 1,196 and 1,187, respectively.
The rest of the top 10 bowlers are Luke Bolong (1,185), Heber Alqueza (1,151), Nestor Ranido (1,141), Noli Valencia (1,136), and Ted Convocar (1,117.)
In the up-the-ladder knockout round for the top five bowlers, Ceniza won the first round after scoring 217 to beat Avila and Padawan.
In the second round, Esolana came out the narrow winner, 179-173 to advance to the championship against Jumapao.
In the final, Esolana scored 191, while Jumapao had 177 to win the annual title.
Meanwhile, for 2025, SUGBU is planning to use a singles format with a classic match per division to allow new bowlers and rookies to compete in Division C. The group is also working on a national open with BOWLER X as its major sponsor.
