Carmen baseball player Karl Mangapis is UAAP’s Rookie of the Year for athletics

Cebuano baseball player Karl Niño Mangapis showed he’s not a one-dimensional athlete as he took his talents to track and field and won a bronze and the Rookie of the Year honors in the 2022 season of the UAAP.

TALENTED. Karl Niño Mangapis, a baseball player from Carmen playing for the University of Sto. Tomas team, showed a different facet of himself when he won the Rookie of the Year honors in Athletics in the UAAP.

Mangapis, an experienced pitcher who’s also solid at the plate, was tapped to join the University of Sto. Tomas athletics team as the baseball event was scrapped in the secondary division.

He didn’t miss a beat as he took the bronze medal in shotput with a throw of 10.08 meters, finishing behind silver medalist Jhay Ticay (10.18) of Adamson and gold medalist and teammate Chinno Balmores (12.98).

“We are proud of you. It only shows that in any event, if you support the kids, anything is possible,” Carmen Baseball posted in its Facebook page.
