Mark Mangubat, the brains behind the event, hopes tournament like this will not only help hone the skills of the local players but will help them discover the next big thing in Cebu chess.
“Cebu Chess Hub’s vision is to help young chess players to develop their skills. We need more chess tournaments to help them develop,” said Mangubat, who added there are a lot of promising young female playes from Cebu.
Mangubat added that Cebu has produced four GMs already–Joseph Sanchez, Richard Bitoon, Enrico Sevillano and Rogeilo Barcenilla–and he hopes another name will be added to that list.
