Cebu Football Club eyes ‘Perfect 10’ against UCFC

Cebu Football Club’s historic 3-2 win against Kaya FC at the Dynamic Herb Football Stadium on Oct. 9 continued an impressive streak for a Cebu club in the Philippine Football League that dates back to 2017.

Then with the now defunct Global FC Cebu as its representative in the top flight, Cebu has proven to be perfect for the home side as it has it went undefeated in eight home games in 2017, winning against Ceres (twice), Ilocos (twice), JPV, and the Stallions and drawing Kaya and Meralco.

INSTRUMENTAL. Cebu FC keeper Jack Zambrano, who played for Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, was a key factor in the win against Kaya. That win extended an unbeaten home streak for a Cebu squad in the PFL to nine games.

The streak extended to nine games with that win against Kaya FC last Sunday, CFC’s first home game. It was also the first professional game at the Dynamic Herb, the only stadium in the country developed by a private football club.

And on Saturday, the home team will go for a perfect run of 10 games against dangerous United City FC at 3 p.m. At 20 points, Cebu leads UCFC by a point in the table but the visitors have two games at hand and hasn’t lost in seven games this season.

That record is what ace striker Arda Cinkir wants to break when he leads Cebu against UCFC. Cinkir currently leads the race for the Golden Boot with eight goals after blasting one last Oct. 9. He’s on course to his personal goal of winning the golden boot but needs to come up with more goals to achieve his mark of scoring 30 this season.

Cinkir won’t be alone in the offensive end though as two other teammates are among the top scorers this season–Chima Uzoka has seven, while Mert Altinoz has four.
