Dongkoy Cup dangles P100K to champion

IT IS all systems go for the 1st Mayor Dongkoy Cup Invitational Basketball Championships on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the Municipality of Asturias, Cebu.

Five teams, led by the Journey To Recovery (JTR) squad of Ian Canete, will show their wares in the event which dangles more than P250,000 in prizes. The other squads are Good Shepherds, Fastbreak Solutions, Tuburan Coffee and Bogo City.

The tournament will follow a single round elimination format with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals.

The winners in the semis will square off for the championship battle while losers tangle with each other for the third place honor.

A championship trophy and P100,000 in cash will go to the title holder of this tournament, which is part of the town’s activities for its coming fiesta celebration.

The runner-up will go home with P80,000 and a trophy, while the third and fourth placers will get P50,000 and P25,000, respectively.

A consolation prize of P10,000 will be given for the eliminated team.

Meanwhile, the Asturias Corn Ranchers 21-under team is set to host Bogo City 21-under squad tonight July 6, 2022 at its own covered court.

The special match is part of both teams’ preparation for the Pilipinas Super League (PSL), which opens on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Cebu City Sports Institute gym in barangay Sawang Calero.

Nine teams–three from Mindanao and six from Cebu Province–are joining the tournament aimed at discovering young talents from the localities. Aside from Asturias and Bogo, the other Cebu-based teams are the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, Mandaue, Lapulapu City and San Fernando.
