Ballerhood overcame a sluggish start, while favorites Cebu Landmasters were in their usual dominant selves as the two favorites set up an exciting final match for the Upper Division title in the Cebu Youth Basketball League Summer Showcase.
Ballerhood, a collection of some of Cebu’s best young talents, used a 13-0run in the second quarter to outlast a stubborn Tisa Basketball, 85-56. Jerwin Espina of the USPF Baby Panthers had 19 points, while Santos Go of USJ-R had 13. Glenn Contado led Tisa Basketball with 23 points, 12 from three-point range. He also had five assists.
Meanwhile, Cebu Landmasters ended Green Rose’s hopes for an upset after opening the first quarter, 41-13, before cruising to a 108-77 win. Raffy Celis again was almost perfect from the field, converting 86.77 percent of his shots to finish with 27 points. He also had 13 rebonds and three steals. Jared Bahay chipped in 13 points.
Eugene Angtud had 23 points for Green Rose.
Meanwhile, in the Lower Division, Kayud Tayud fended off Punta Alas to set up a title clash with GAA.
Punta Alas scored six straight points in the final 90 seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime. However, Jerome Luchavez delivered in the extra period, scoring five of his eight points for the five-point win. Neil John Castro led Kayud Tayud with 12 points, while Punta Alas relied on Renz Cabunila’s 17.
On tthe other hand, GAA had no troubles in its 51-32 win over BETC. Ray Catacutan led the team with 17 points, while John Ray Gorre had 13 points and eight rebounds. Joshua Noval had seven points, nine rebounds and five steals for BETC.
