PHILIPPINES women’s national team captain Hali Long is moving to Australia after signing with Brisbane Roar ahead of the 2026-27 A-League Women’s season.
Long, 31, is the most-capped player in Philippine women’s football history with 106 international appearances. The veteran center back started every match of the Philippines’ historic 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign, including the team’s landmark 1-0 victory over co-hosts New Zealand in Wellington—the country’s first-ever World Cup win.
She earned her 100th international cap at the 2025 SEA Games and is set to lead the Philippines at the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. Long said she is eager to embrace the challenge of playing in a new country while helping Brisbane Roar achieve its goals.
“I’m excited to take on a new challenge in a new country and ready to push myself while helping the team reach its goals this year,” Long said in a Roar press release. “I can’t wait to meet the girls and get started.”
Roar head coach Johnathan Clemente said Long’s experience, leadership and physical presence would be valuable additions to the squad.
“Hali is a genuine, proper defender,” Clemente said. “She loves to tackle and head the ball in all circumstances, and she’ll no doubt put her body on the line for Brisbane. A leader and legend of Philippines football as captain with 106 international caps.”
Long began her career in the United States with the Little Rock Trojans, the University of Arkansas’ women’s soccer team. She later moved to the Philippines, where she played for Kaya-Iloilo in the PFF Women’s League and helped the club win two league titles, before joining BGC College of Asian Scholars in Thailand.
Her move to Brisbane follows a standout season in Thailand, where she was named Thai Women’s League MVP after helping BGC complete an unbeaten championship campaign. Long has also represented both Kaya and BGC in the AFC Women’s Champions League.
