IN A bid to improve the competence of its referees, the Negros Occidental Regional Football Association (Norfa) hosted its Referees Convention in Victorias City recently.

The activity, attended by 52 referees, was held in collaboration with Victorias City, led by Mayor Junb Bantug, and with the Victorias National High School and the Victorias City FC.
“Norfa is committed to referee development. The plan is to have a consistent Norfa Referee Refresher course under the Norfa Referees department to require all referees to attend before they can participate in Sanctioned Norfa Tournaments,” said Norfa president Miggy Valmayor, whose term as head of the regional FA has seen numerous changes and improvements.
The participants of the convention came from San Carlos City, Toboso, Escalante City, Sagay City, Cadiz City, Victorias City, EB Magalona, Silay City, Kabankalan, Bago, Himammaylan City and Bacolod City as well as those from the Department of Education.
“Our goal is to create a harmonious environment for referee development. This is also in parallel in our pilot trials for a referee academy. Similar to our COD for players, we have started our Referee Academy to our young referees. Free of charge,” said Valmayor.
