PMNFT to face Guam, Myanmar in friendly tournament

The Philippine Men’s National Football Team (PMNFT) is set to compete in a Tri-Nations friendly tournament featuring Guam and Myanmar from June 3 to 9 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

PREPARATION. The PFF has arranged a three-team friendly tournament for the PMNFT as part of its preparation for the Hyundai Cup.

The tournament serves as part of the national team’s preparations for the 2026 Hyundai Cup–ASEAN Championship scheduled in July. It also provides an opportunity for the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and the coaching staff to further assess and develop the squad ahead of major regional competitions.

The Philippines will open its campaign against Guam on June 3. Guam and Myanmar will then meet on June 6 before the host nation closes out the tournament against Myanmar on June 9. All matches are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.

PFF President John Anthony Gutierrez underscored the significance of the June FIFA international window as the national team continues to build around a younger core of players.

“The June FIFA window is extremely important for us because every international match now is part of our long-term preparation for the Hyundai Cup and the continued growth of this new generation of Philippine footballers,” Gutierrez said.

He added that the Tri-Nations Friendlies would help the coaching staff strengthen team chemistry, test tactical adjustments, and further develop the identity that the young Philippine squad has begun to establish on the regional stage.

The PMNFT enters the tournament with growing confidence following its impressive showing in the Hyundai Cup, highlighted by a 2-1 semifinal victory over defending champion Thailand.

The national team also narrowly missed qualification for the AFC Asian Cup after finishing second in Group A with 14 points, level with Tajikistan. However, the Philippines fell short of advancing due to goal difference.

Expected to lead the squad are key players Sandro Reyes and Bjorn Kristensen, both of whom played crucial roles during the team’s Hyundai Cup campaign.

The Philippines last saw action in March, when it settled for a 1-1 draw against Tajikistan in an AFC Asian Cup qualifying match held in Tajikistan.

With the ASEAN Championship approaching, the Tri-Nations tournament will provide the PMNFT another valuable opportunity to sharpen its form and continue building momentum on the international stage.
