SUGBU’s Hodgkinson, Buyco finish in top 3 in Negros Bowling Open

MARK Hodgkinson and GJ Buyco posted podium finishes in the Mixed Open Division of the 25th Negros Tenpin Bowling Open Tournament at the Lopues East Bowling Center in Bacolod City on June 29, 2025.

Hodgkinson, the country ambassador of Bowler X who is also representing the Sugarland Tenpin Association Inc. of Bacolod City, finished second in the division while Buyco finished third.

In the qualification phase, Buyco finished at second place with 1,803–hitting 221 in the second and third rounds and a high of 244 in the seventh round. Hodgkinson was at third place with 1,665, scoring 245 and 238 and rounds six, and seven, while Lara Wong got first place with 1,803.

The other top five bowlers were Andrey Barbosa and Aldric Bathan.

In the first match of the step ladder finals, Hodgkinson scored 226 to eliminate Barbosa (160) and Bathan (172), and edged out Buyco (212) in the second match.

However, Hodgkinson just fell five pins short in the final, losing to Wong, 202-197.

On the other hand, Richard Turner bagged two sixth place finishes in the Mixed Classified and Mixed Senior Masters for a remarkable trip in the City of Gentle Smiles. He finished sixth in the Classified Masters after scoring 1,356, just edging out Sugbu teammate Joma Avila who also scored 1,356.

Lance Tan won the division with 1,448, while Brendan Vista (1,411) and Ashton Lorenze (1,408) got the second and third place finishes.

Turner repeated his feat in the Mixed Senior Masters with 1,403, while Biboy Rivera won the division after tallying 1,487.
