University of Cebu’s Elreen Ando makes Tokyo Olympics

University of Cebu’s Elreen Ando, a Southeast Asian Games silver medalist, has qualified to the Tokyo Olympics after making the continental cut in the Under 64-Kilo division. She joins Rio silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, who earlier made the cut in the women’s Under 55 division.

Ando, a graduate of the University of Cebu, ranked 12 with 2,634.9334 points in the division topped by Romania’s Toma Loredana Elena. The Cebuana earned the spot as she is the second-best Asian in the division, next to Chen Wen Hue of Chinese Taipie, who has 3,116.8071. Ando is the second Cebuana to qualify in this year’s games after Margielyn Didal.

She is also the second Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. product to make the prestigious Olympics after Mary Joy Tabal of Southwestern University made the cut in women’s marathon in Rio 2016.

SECOND BEST IN ASIA. Though she finish at No. 12, Elreen Ando was the second-best from Asia in the division, earning a continental spot in the Olympics.
