Cesafi to temporarily halt livestreaming of basketball games due to negative comments

The Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. will temporarily stop the live streaming of basketball games after the controversial conclusion to the University of San Jose-Recoletos vs. University of Southern Philippines Foundation game.

In that game, USJ-R scored a buzzer-beating three that USPF said shouldn’t have been counted, using as evidence replay of the livestream. However, Cesafi, led by commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy, stood by its officials and said video replays are not used to correct game decisions by referees.

DECISION. The Cesafi, led by commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy, met with various officials and stood by the decision of the referees of the USJ-R vs. USPF game.

In a letter to Cesafi president Bernard Villamor, Tiukinhoy said, “I regret to inform you that we will temporarily stop the showing of the basketball games in live stream due to negative comments. Everyone wants to be part of the officiating too. Their posts, without their knowledge, are already cyber libel per lawyers.”

However, Tiukinhoy said the games will still be recorded and be on delayed telecast on Skycable and Solar TV.
