The CHBC-Juniors leaned on a balanced attack to foil Wayne Pepito’s impressive game for the gritty Aneda Builders Falcons, 76-64, in Division 1 of the CYBL U16 Summer Showcase.
After a close first period that ended 19-all, CHBC broke away in the second quarter, 38-27, and increased the gap to 23, 60-37 at the end of the third. Five players, including three of the starters, finished with double digits, while Daman Belano had 13 points in 22 minutes of action off the bench. Erik Jabalon and Froilan Maglasang had 12 each, while Jelomar Rota had 11 and Alden Caingleth had 10.
On the other hand, Pepito had an impressive 33 points, making 12 of 19 shots from the field. He also made 11 of 17 free throws and had 15 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The CHBC Jrs. will next face sister team CHBC-Passerelle in the quarterfinals, while the Aneda BUilders will take on title favorites RonBucz. The other quarterfinals will be between AI and the Greywolves and FBA and Gotshot.
