Will Margielyn Didal’s run stretch for a third straight international meet debut? A gold medalist in her first Asian Games and Southeast Asian Games, Cebuana skater Didal guns for the pinnacle of her sport today as she makes her debut in the Tokyo Olympics, which also marks skateboarding’s debut in the quadrennial meet.
Didal, the inaugural gold medalist for women’s skateboarding in the Asian Games in 2018 and the Southeast Asian Games in 2019, will be competing with 19 others in the women’s street event on July 26 at 7:30 a.m. She will have two 45-second runs to try five tricks and the top eight will advance to the finals.
Also on July 26, Carlo Paalam will face Ireland’s Irvine Brendan at 12:03 p.m. in the men’s boxing flyweight division round-of-32, while at 1:39 p.m. Nesthy Petecio will gun for a quarterfinal spot against Chinese Taipe’s Lin Yu-Ting in the women’s featherweight division. Hidilyn Diaz, another medal hopeful, will see action in weightlifting at 12:50 p.m.
