Robina, Gold Coast– The South Korean Taeguk Ladies looks forward to showing something better when they battle it out with the Philippine national women’s team in their Asian Football Confederation Women’s Asian Cup 2026 match at the Cbus Super Stadium on Thursday here.

Coach Mark Torcaso knows this and the Filipinas will be up to the task at hand in their 11 a.m. (Manila time match with the Taeguk Ladies.
“South Korea is probably the strongest team in the competition. We’re looking forward to the challenge,” said Torcaso on Wednesday during a pre-match press conference, in a campaign supported by the Philippine Football Federation and the Philippine Sports Commission.
The Taeguk Ladies carry with them the moment of a 3-0 win triumph of Iran on Monday.
This put them in a share of the Group A lead with the Australian Matildas.
The Matildas, coached by Joe Montemurro, will face winless Iran on at 7 p.m. (Manila time) for win no. 2, and a chance to keep the lead.
Taeguk Ladies coach Shin Sang-woo made this promise as the Filipinas seek to rebound from their 0-1 loss to the Matildas last Sunday.
“The players have been training for a very tough match. I think our players have adjusted to the field,” said Shin.
The Korean squad is considered dangerous with seasoned veterans in the mix, including Ji So-yun (171 caps) and Kim Hye-ri (137 caps).
Their tactical dominance under coach Shin had seen the Taeguk Ladies demonstrated an ability maintaining 79% possession against Iran in their opener.
“We had a tough game against the host team in the first round. But, now our direction is towards playing against South Korea. And we’ll experience playing probably against one of the best and strongest competitions,” added Torcaso.
So far, the Koreans have won five matches against the Filipinas since 2018.
