PHL seeks crucial win vs. dangerous Thailand in Hyundai Cup

AFTER a morale-boosting 4-1 win against Laos last Saturday, the Philippines will take on regional powerhouse Thailand at home in the 2026 Hyundai Cup at at the New Clark City Stadium on Aug. 4, 2026.

Thailand sits on top of Group B with six points after an easy 5-0 rout over Laos and a 2-0 win over Malaysia.

CRUCIAL. The Philippines got its campaign back on track with a 4-1 win over Laos in the 2026 Hyundai Cup.

“Thailand is a very tough opponent, and we know it’s going to be a difficult game, but we’re preparing the team for that. If we face difficult weather conditions again, as is announced, we have been working to try to play a different kind of as we did in our last home match,” said Philippines coach Carles Cuadrat.

The Philippines dominated possession in its home debut against Myanmar, but poor finishing and defensive lapses saw the host lose, 4-1.

The Philippines also conceded early against Laos, thanks to a fumble by the keeper, but managed to bounce back for a 4-1 win.
