According to insider, Baricuatro admin optimistic it can revive Cebu Province Sports Commission

SPORTS development in Cebu Province may take an upward tick as the moth-balled Cebu Province Sports Commission (CPSC) may see a revival under the administration of Governor-elect Pamela Baricuatro.

GRANDEST. Aside from promoting grassroots development, the Cebu Province Sports Commission also ran the highly successful Governor’s Cup basketball tournament.

An insider in the camp of the incoming governor told CebuSports.Net that they are optimistic they can revive the CPSC, which was last active during the administration of Gov. Hilario Davide, who ran for vice governor in 2019.

Started by Gov. Davide during his first term, the CPSC, then chaired by businessman Michel Lhuillier, was instrumental in improving grassroots development in Cebu Province.

It regularly sent out coaches to conduct various seminars and trainings for the LGUs and schools in Cebu Province, which in turn led to the province’s improved showing in the Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games.

In 2018, Cebu Province finished fourth overall in the PNG, winning 18 golds, 18 silvers and 28 bronze medals. It also finished at sixth overall during the Batang Pinoy in the same year with a 24-10-21 haul.

Aside from grassroots development, the CPSC also oversaw the highly successful Governor’s Cup for basketball, a province wide tournament that used a home and away format in the finals, resulting to overflowing crowd.

The tournament also allowed non-Cesafi aligned players to get discovered, and among the famous product of the tournament is Steve Nash Enriquez of Minglanilla.
