Cebuana footballer in UK funds outreach program for Odette survivors

Suizette Nemeno, one of the pioneering batch of Cebuana footballers now based in London, managed to help 150 families who suffered the brunt of Super Typhoon Odette with funds raised by joining a benefit run in London.

Nemeno, a member of the University of the Philippines-Cebu ladies football team in the late 90s and early 2000s, raised P25,000 from the run and added a few thousands more from her pocket. She bought rice, eggs, clothes shoes, toys and sweets for the kids which she sent to 150 families in Cagay, Barili who were affected by Odette.

SUI’S ALL THAT. Suizette Nemeno, one of the pioneering members of the UP Cebu ladies football team, is all smiles as she joins a benefit run in London.

This isn’t the first time Nemeno has done this as she also had an outreach for 450 families in Busay before the lockdown. Sui, who a Fine Arts graduate of UP Cebu who is also planning to join the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition in the UK, is planning to run again to raise more funds for another outreach program later this year. Aside from her teammates in a weekend league in the UK who also donated for the program, Sui is also thankful for the support of former rivals Jennifer Castanos and Madelyn Cena, former members of the USC-TC football team for her program.

RELIEF. Typhoon survivors line up during Nemeno’s outreach program in Barili, one of the towns that suffered the worst of Super Typhoon Odette’s onslaught.
TOYS INCLUDED. Aside from basic necessities, Nemeno also gave out toys for kids.

Hello, I admire your work. I also want to help. As a football player for Port Vale F.C and Salford university player – I have teamed with some footballers in Manchester to donate clothes during the typhoon too.

I have also been doing some free styling competitions to raise money to local grassroots.

One we can have a meeting in the future and see if we can do more work together ?
