AVGCC keeps hold of top spot, CCC Team 2 jumps to 2nd in Aviators

Alta Vista Golf and Country Club (AVGCC) kept its hold of the top spot while co-host Cebu Country Club (CCC) Team 2 jumped to second in the Aviator Division after the second day at the CCC.

AVGCC, which shared the lead with Zamboanga after the first round at 101 points, scored 116 in the second day for 217, eight points ahead of CCC. Seeing action for the first time, Gabriel Yap Jr. had 31 points, spiked by a birdie in the Par 5 seventh, while Efren Gica and Marvin Mendoza had 30 each. Blake Go scored 25, while Ferdinand Chua’s 24 wasn’t counted.

On the other hand, CCC Team 2, which was running fourth after Day 1, jumped to second place after scoring 113 in the second round at home. Christian Balangauan had two birdies in Holes 3 and 15 to finish with 33 points, while Baltaire Balangauan added 31 points. Baltaire had back-to-back birdies in Holes 8 and 9 but a pickup on Hole 13 dampened an otherwise great round. Marco Mendoza scored 26 points, while Frederic Chiongbian had 23. Pio Neri also had 23 but it wasn’t counted.

Day 1 co-leader Zamboanga dropped to third at 203 after scoring 102 yesterday.

The Aviator Division will play a second straight round at CCC on March 3, before closing out at Club Filipino.

Meanwhile, CCC Team 1 stayed at third place in the Championship Division after scoring 130 in Day 2 at Club Filipino de Cebu for a two-day tally of 256, trailing Southwoods 274 (141, 133) and Eastridge 262 (127, 135).

Jacob Cajita had four birdies to finish with an even par 72 good for 36 points, while Jufil Sato had three birdies for the day to finish with 1 over 71 for 35 points. Bayani Garcia had 30 points, while Jon Joseph Alvarez closed out his stint this year with 29 points. Vincent Osmena, who had 31 points in Day 1, limped to 19 points in the second day.

CCC will still play at Club Filipino on Day 3 and will close out its campaign at home on Day 4.
