Club Filipino zooms ahead in Sportswriters Division after round 2 at home turf

Club Filipino Inc. de Cebu took advantage of its home turf, outscoring the Day 1 Davao City golf leader by 14 to take the lead by 11 after Day 2 of the PAL Interclub Sportswriters Division at Club Filipino, while Alta Vista Golf and Country Club is poised to win the Friendship Division title after putting up a 20-point lead after the second round at the Cebu Country Club.

Club Filipino, which trailed Davao City Golf by three after Day 1, scored 92 points in the second round for a two-day haul of 194. Nilo Seno and Warren Bedell had 24 points each, Seung Hyung Baik had 23, while Leonardo Arevalo’s 16 wasn’t counted.

Davao City Golf 183 (105, 72), leaned on the 24 of Jerson Lebosada in the second day, while Sarangani Golf Club is at third with 181 (85, 96). With the Sportswriters Division still playing at Club Filipino, the co-hosts are expected to field the same squad, while Day 1 unit Teodoro Almario, Evans Tumaliwan, Jovi Neri, Rolan Paolo, and Calvin Gothong expected to close out its title hunt in Round 4 on Saturday at the Cebu Country Club.

Meanwhile, AVGCC 2 leaned on the strong showing of Anthony Gonzalodo to break away in the Friendship Division. After a one-point lead in Day 1, AVGCC is now 20 points ahead of scoring 90 in the second day for 171 points. Gonzalodo led the way with 27 points, Erick Gica and Richeliu Ho had 22 each, and Ronald Capito had 19.

Apo Golf, which trailed by one after Day 1, is now 20 points back at 151 after scoring 71 points in Day 2, while Eagle Ridge is third at 142 (80-62).
